Title: Alaska Fish Wars (2012– )

Alaska Fish Wars is a show on the National Geographic Channel. Fish is a staple in Alaska. As a result, the season of fishing is one comprised of fisherman all cramming for their season’s catch. The salmon only run for so long and when it is time, the fisherman have to grab what they can before anyone else takes advantage of it. Salmon is a high cost business as well as a risky one.

Since we sold out of the shore based set netting and bought a drift boat and permit, I decided I wanted someone with experience to assist in operating the Night Hawk the first season. I dropped by the UCIDA (United Cook Inlet Drift Association) office in March of 2013 to for some references. Within about two hours I got a call from Donald “Dino” Sutherland. He explained to me that he had sold out of the fishery a few years prior and wanted to get back into it. He said that he would most likely be followed by a National Geographic Wild ( NatGeoWild ) camera crew as they were expanding the number of boats on the show Alaska Fish Wars. Supposedly the network loved the idea of a veteran fisherman helping a rookie and his son learn the ropes. Stay tuned Monday nights to find out!
